About

Legacy in Lights

In the interest of preserving the incredible history Texas has, we are implementing an innovative way to attract visitors and locals alike as well as a wide demographic. We want everyone to be involved in the Lone Star culture and by creating an engaging, historically themed attraction that captures the story of the Battle of Gonzales, the city can offer visitors an immersive experience that drives tourism, supports local businesses, and fosters a deeper connection to Texas history. The Texas Legacy In Lights project provides a fully immersive experience of history, engaging sight, sound, and touch. Visitors can hear and feel the thunder of approaching hooves and witness the Gonzales Memorial Museum come alive with the story of Gonzales, Texas. The museum recounts the tale of the 1831 cannon gift, the "Come and Take It" flag rebellion, the town's role in the Alamo battle, the Runaway Scrape, and more. Gonzales's pivotal role as the starting point of the Texas Revolution is a story that deserves to be shared widely.

To achieve this, the project utilizes projection mapping, illuminating buildings with historically accurate animations, footage, and recreations. This allows audiences to experience past events in real-time, fostering a direct connection between the viewer and the site's cultural heritage. This approach has proven effective in historic cities aiming to highlight their unique cultural identities, making it an ideal choice for Gonzales.

Gonzales, known as the birthplace of Texas independence, played a crucial role in the Texas Revolution. The city's "Come and Take It" slogan, originating from the 1835 Battle of Gonzales—the first military engagement of the Texas Revolution against Mexican forces—remains a cornerstone of its identity.

Preserving Texas's rich history is a key goal of this project drawing visitors from across Texas and around the world for generations to come.
